I really hope that "Disco Dancer" isn't as classical as Bollywood gets.

Pulao recognized the original, Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja, from the Bollywood hit "Disco Dancer," and downloaded it. Good stuff!

You can watch the original in this clip:

Nice to know M.I.A. is big in Finland!

Yeah, I came across MIA in Finland. Her song Jimmy hit the charts here. I was interested in finding out more and found out that the song is from a Bollywood classic but the lyrics are of the same kind of bizarre political content you mentioned. More research is needed!

I've been thinking about what to say about this really interesting commentary about a concert that I was actually at, but seemed not to be thinking about at all while I was there, at least not in any way that resembles the overlap between politics and music as you've pointed out.

If the idea is that MIA can be political, and can be fun, and fun can be good for politics, I wonder-- can fun be bad for politics, and conversely, is politics bad for fun? In her recent review of Juno, Lisa Schwarzbaum seemed to say that this movie earned her momentary suspension of *some* her feminism, and I guess I'm trying to figure out if that's really a compliment. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20163026,00.html
