Between the winking and "my friend(s)," I wanted to put my hand through the television and pinch their heads off and stomp on them - oops, silly me - I meant to say 'em. Gotcha.

What pissed me off, though this is old news by now, was the spin after the debate; every commentator seemed to think that, since SP didn't fall off the podium or speak in tongues, this was a big win for her.

But the winks onstage in the face of a wounded nation (good point, Kam) felt like a part of something I thought I saw in both McCain and Palin's personas during their debates -- a certain smirkiness; a little bit of condescension.

Whether it was McCain's insistence that Obama didn't understand whenever they disagreed (and his refusal to look at his opponent), or Palin's winkiness in the face of a staesman's wonkishness, I don't think the American people are winking back right now.
